Macon Mental Health Billing Service: 7 Easy Essentials
A Macon mental health billing service handles claims, payment posting and denial follow-up for therapy and psychiatry practices in Bibb County and across middle Georgia. Many practices here mix in-network plans, Medicare and clients who pay out of network, and each path needs its own routine. This guide covers seven essentials.
Bibb County and middle Georgia: what a Macon mental health billing service should know
The U.S. Census Bureau’s QuickFacts page for Macon-Bibb County lists a population estimate of 157,556 for July 1, 2025 and a median household income of $51,234 for 2020 to 2024, in 2024 dollars (checked October 24, 2026). A median says nothing about one client’s plan, but it is a reason to ask early how each client expects to pay.
The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) groups counties into six Medicaid regions. Its region list places Bibb County in the Central region, along with Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach, Baldwin and Laurens counties, among others. A Macon mental health billing service should record the county on every Medicaid client.

Out-of-network clients: the Macon mental health billing service routine
When you are out of network, the client usually pays you, and the policyholder may later ask the insurer to reimburse them. That puts two people on one transaction. The policyholder, also called the subscriber, holds the plan. The client is the person you treated.
Set the routine before the first visit:
- Record the policyholder’s name, birth date, relationship to the client and member ID.
- Check out-of-network benefits first. Our guide to out-of-network billing for therapists lists the questions to ask.
- Write down what you will collect and when, from your point of view as the provider.
- Agree in writing who receives any insurer payment if you bill the claim for the client.
MCM South bills out-of-network claims for clients. A family-held plan makes the policyholder data more important, not less. See in-network vs out-of-network credentialing for how network status changes what a payer pays.
Payer rules a Macon mental health billing service applies
Keep private, public and state rules in separate notes.
Private payers
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the trade name of Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthcare Plan of Georgia, Inc., an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, according to an Anthem press release dated May 2025. Its provider site points providers to Availity for authorizations, claims and eligibility. For phone lines and portals across payers, use our insurance companies contact directory.
Medicare and Medicaid
CMS lists Palmetto GBA as the Jurisdiction J contractor for Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee, and Medicare.gov says claims are due within 12 months of the date of service.
For telehealth, CMS’s telehealth FAQ (updated October 8, 2026) says Medicare telehealth can be received anywhere in the United States through December 31, 2027, and describes an in-person visit rule for mental health telehealth after that date.
For Georgia Medicaid, DCH’s Georgia Families page names three care management organizations (CMOs): Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan. The Georgia Medicaid portal carries a notice posted May 25, 2026 saying providers who had not revalidated are suspended for dates of service from July 1, 2026.
State rules
Code section 33-24-59.5 asks an insurer to pay or explain within 15 working days of an electronic claim and 30 calendar days of a paper claim, with 12 percent annual interest on late payment. The Office of Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) complaint page says providers can use its Consumer Complaint Portal for managed care claims problems.

No. Claims and reports move electronically. Georgia payer knowledge, written scope and a signed HIPAA business associate agreement matter more than an address.
Which Georgia Medicaid region is Macon in?
DCH’s region list places Bibb County in the Central region. DCH names three CMOs: Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan. Confirm the plan on the card.
Who is the policyholder when a client pays out of network?
