Marietta Mental Health Billing Service: 5 Easy Essentials

A Marietta mental health billing service handles insurance claims for therapy and psychiatry practices in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta, from claim submission to payment posting and denial follow-up. Georgia Medicaid is changing in several ways at once, and commercial and Medicare claims follow separate rules. This guide gives five checks to run before you choose a service.

What a Marietta mental health billing service tracks first

Marietta is in Cobb County, which the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) region list places in the Atlanta Medicaid region with Fulton, DeKalb and Gwinnett. A Marietta mental health billing service should start with each client’s payer type and plan, then with your own enrollment status at each payer. Both decide whether a claim pays.

Georgia Medicaid changes a Marietta mental health billing service should watch

Three Georgia Medicaid items matter this fall, each taken from a DCH page checked October 24, 2026. Ask any service you consider how it will track them.

Revalidation. The Georgia Medicaid portal carries a notice posted May 25, 2026 saying providers who have not revalidated are suspended, and claims with dates of service on or after July 1, 2026 are not paid. Suspension lifts after revalidation, but the effective date is the submission date, with no retroactive enrollment.

CMO contracts. DCH’s Georgia Families news page says the CMO procurement is in its protest phase. DCH will extend the current contracts for Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan through June 30, 2027. It has not posted an implementation timeline.

Pathways. A DCH notice says the Georgia Pathways extension took effect October 1, 2025 and continues through December 31, 2026. Verify eligibility again at each visit.

Rules a Marietta mental health billing service applies by payer type

Private payers

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the trade name of Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthcare Plan of Georgia, Inc., an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, according to an Anthem press release.

Its provider site points providers to Availity for claims, authorizations and eligibility. Read each commercial contract for its own filing window. Our payer contract compliance guide shows what to look for.

Medicare and Medicaid

CMS lists Palmetto GBA as the Jurisdiction J contractor for Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. Medicare.gov says Original Medicare claims must be filed within 12 months. For Medicaid, claims go to the client’s CMO, so the plan on the card controls the payer and portal. Keep contacts in our insurance companies contact directory.

State rules

Code section 33-24-59.5 asks an insurer to pay or explain within 15 working days of an electronic claim and 30 days of a paper claim, with 12 percent annual interest on late payments. The Office of Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) complaint page says providers and consumers can report suspected mental health parity violations through its portal.

How do I choose a Marietta mental health billing service?

Choose a Marietta mental health billing service that can explain how it will handle a Georgia Medicaid plan change, track each payer’s filing clock and send a monthly report. Ask for a sample report and a HIPAA business associate agreement first. Get fee terms in writing, and confirm in writing that the service bills in Georgia.

What to do Monday morning

  1. Open the Georgia Medicaid portal and check your revalidation status.
  2. List every Medicaid client with the plan on the card and the date you last checked it.
  3. Note which clients enrolled through Pathways, so you can recheck them before January.
  4. Read a CARC and RARC code list from your last remittance to see why claims denied.
  5. Record your clean claim rate, then ask each service on your shortlist for a sample report.

The short version: Marietta mental health billing service

A Marietta mental health billing service should track your Georgia Medicaid revalidation, the CMO contract extension and the Pathways end date, alongside commercial and Medicare clocks. Recheck plans at every visit, and get reports and fees in writing.

FAQ

Is Marietta in the same Georgia Medicaid region as Atlanta?

What is happening with Georgia Medicaid CMO contracts?

DCH says the procurement is in the protest phase pending a Notice of Award. It will extend the Amerigroup, CareSource and Peach State contracts through June 30, 2027. No implementation timeline has been posted.

Does Georgia Pathways end on December 31, 2026?

A DCH notice says the extension that took effect October 1, 2025 continues through December 31, 2026. Check DCH for any later notice before you rely on that date.

Does a Marietta practice need a billing service in Cobb County?

No. Claims and reports move electronically, so a service can work with practices in Marietta, elsewhere in Cobb County and across the northwest Atlanta suburbs.
