BCBST's manual covers Blue Networks, the Federal Employee Program, Postal Service Health Benefits, BlueAdvantage (Medicare Advantage), BlueCare and TennCare Select (Medicaid), BlueCare Plus and Cover Tennessee. Medicaid and Medicare Advantage follow their own rules. Do not apply the commercial filing limit to them.

Behavioral health

BCBST manages behavioral health utilization review itself. Prior authorization is at 1-800-924-7141 and fax 1-866-558-0789. After-hours requests go through Availity (BCBST notice).

Credentialing

Three steps: complete your CAQH ProView profile, use the Optum Payer Enrollment Services portal, then register and file the enrollment application in Availity (enroll a provider).

Electronic claims

Confirm BCBST's current payer ID in your Availity enrollment or with BCBST's eBusiness Service Center (423-535-5717, option 2).

Telehealth

BCBST announced permanent in-network telehealth in 2020, including behavioral health (BCBST news). Check the current manual for billing details.
