Wisconsin Medicare: who processes your Part B claims

Wisconsin Medicare Part B claims go to one Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). National Government Services is the MAC for Jurisdiction 6, which covers Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Medicare Advantage plans are private plans, so call the number on the member card for those. Medicare, Medicaid and private payers follow different rules. Use the CMS MAC page for the current contractor contact details.

What to have ready before you call a Wisconsin insurer

A short, prepared call is faster than a long one. Keep these in front of you before you dial any Wisconsin insurance companies contact number:

  • The patient’s name as it appears on the card, date of birth and address.
  • Your individual NPI (National Provider Identifier) and your tax ID.
  • The date of service, the CPT code and the total billed amount. See the non-E/M CPT guide and the E/M CPT guide for psychiatrists.
  • The claim number from the payer portal, if you have one.
  • Medicare Part B questions: have your NPI, PTAN and the last five digits of your tax ID ready.
  • Wisconsin Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus members: check enrollment (fee-for-service or an HMO) on WiCall before calling a plan.
  • Anthem Wisconsin behavioral health claim disputes and credentialing questions route through Carelon Behavioral Health.

Write down the name of the representative and a call reference number. Phone menus, holds and transfers can add up, and a dropped call means starting over. If you would rather not make these calls, MCM South does it for psychotherapists and psychiatrists.
