What is Care Aide?

Care Aide is SimplePractice’s paid AI add-on. Its support guide lists Intake Summaries, Session Prep, Session Sidekick, Client Summaries, Treatment Planner, and Note Checker (for supervisees). SimplePractice says clinicians must review all AI-generated content and that client consent is required before using the AI features.

What works well, and what to weigh

Strengths, from what SimplePractice publishes

  • Scheduling, notes, and telehealth in one login.
  • An appointment request widget and group telehealth are listed.
  • Care Aide tools are built in, with a stated clinician-review and client-consent requirement.
  • Pricing and the free-trial terms are public, so you can compare before you start.

Things to weigh

  • Care Aide costs extra beyond your plan.
  • Insurance Navigator is listed as coming soon, so ask what handles claims and denials today.
  • Promotions differ between SimplePractice’s public page and its partner offer. Read the terms at sign-up.
  • Group practices pay per practitioner. Add up the cost for your whole team.
  • Prescribers should confirm that the features they need are included. We have not verified them.

Who it fits, and who should look elsewhere

May fit: solo therapists and small group practices that want records, scheduling, and telehealth under one login and are willing to pay for add-ons as they grow. See who MCM South serves.

Look closer: psychiatrists and other prescribers (confirm prescribing features); larger groups that need custom pricing; practices that want someone to chase every denied claim, which is billing-service work and not a software feature.

Five things to check before you start

  1. How you see clients. Individual, group, and telehealth.
  2. Who will use it. A solo owner or a team with separate logins.
  3. How you handle insurance claims. The pricing page lists an Insurance Navigator add-on marked as coming soon. Ask what is available now.
  4. Your consent forms. Update them before turning on any AI tool.
  5. What happens after the discount ends. Look up the regular monthly price on the pricing page.

Where does billing help fit in, and why do we link to SimplePractice?

Deciding whether to take insurance at all? Read Credentialed or Noncredentialed with Insurance. Software keeps your records and schedule in order. A billing service works your claims, denials, and appeals. MCM South only does mental and behavioral health billing for psychotherapists and psychiatrists. Learn the terms in our glossary: EHR terms and clearinghouse terms. See the CPT and E/M code guide for the codes you will bill, and browse the full billing terms glossary or all billing resources.

Our founder, Michael Williams, consulted for SimplePractice for seven years, working with its clearinghouse on billing issues. SimplePractice is the only software company we link to as an affiliate.
