Credentialing and behavioral health
Wellmark E-Credentialing Central handles all applications electronically. Validate or update your information every 90 days (provider site). Behavioral health types credentialed: psychologists, social workers, LMHC, LMFT and community mental health centers. Timely filing: 180 days is the guideline cited for new contracted providers. Residential mental health and chemical dependency inpatient care require precertification; some group plans require more (types of authorizations).
Medicare Advantage
Wellmark Advantage has its own paper address and a 65-calendar-day Level One appeal window, and BCBS of Michigan manages its care management. Do not apply those rules to commercial claims (MA manual).
What is different in South Dakota
Wellmark covers Iowa and South Dakota, but South Dakota has its own rules. The in-state provider line is 800-774-3892. South Dakota LPCs need the LPC-MH designation from the state Board of Social Services. South Dakota CSWs and LPCs need the QMHP endorsement from the Department of Human Services. Some Wellmark networks require a South Dakota address. The state Division of Insurance lists mental health parity at SDCL 58-17-98 for individual plans and SDCL 58-18-80 for group plans.
