What Is a CAQH ID and How Do You Find It?
A CAQH ID is the number that identifies your provider profile in CAQH’s online portal. Plans ask for it so they can find your credentialing data. If you cannot remember yours, you can usually find it quickly. This post explains what it is and where to look. For how it fits into enrollment, see our insurance credentialing page.

What the ID is
The ID belongs to your profile in the CAQH Provider Data Portal. It is not your NPI, and it is not your password. Health plans use it to pull the data you entered, once you authorize them. See the credentialing terms glossary for related words.
4 easy ways to find your CAQH ID
- Search your inbox for the welcome email from CAQH or the plan that invited you. CAQH’s sign-in page tells new users to use the link in that email.
- Use the “Check for CAQH ID” link on the CAQH sign-in page.
- Ask the credentialing department of a plan you applied to. They may have it on file.
- If you are in a group, ask your practice manager or whoever set up the profile.
Keep your login safe
- Never email your password or share it in a text.
- Do not post your CAQH ID and login together in a shared document.
- If you give a billing company access, do it through the plan or CAQH’s own tools, not by sending credentials.
MCM South never asks you to send a password. We work from your authorized access.
Next: keep the profile current
Finding it is only the start. Keep each section current and authorize the plans you apply to. Track each plan’s status on our credentialing and network status page, and use our insurance companies contact by state directory when you need a plan’s line.
When a plan asks for your ID
Plans often ask for your ID on a credentialing application so they can find your profile. Enter it exactly as shown. A typo can send the plan to the wrong profile or none at all. If you share the ID with a billing partner, share only the ID, never your password.
Keep the ID in a safe place, such as a password manager or a locked document, along with your NPI and Tax ID. Our private practice management resources include organizing tips, and the commercial payer glossary entry explains the plan type involved.
